How to calibrate the Essentials pH meter?

The device is pre-calibrated by the manufacturer, but regular calibration is necessary for maintaining the instrument in perfect condition. If a pH meter hasn't been used in a while, it's best to calibrate it again.

Calibration should be done at room temperature (approximately 25°C). If you want to make sure the calibration went well, take a control measurement - dip the meter into the calibration solution and measure again.

1. Use a calibration solution with a known pH value (often 4, 7 or 10).
2. Take off the cover and rinse the sensor with clear water and shake the pH meter (like you would a mercury thermometer).
3. Dip the sensor into the calibration solution and shake off any bubbles that may appear.
4. Turn the device on and hold the "CAL" button until the display reads "CAL". The display should start flashing and show the pH value of the solution.
5. Wait until the display stops flashing
6. Rinse the sensor with clean water. 

Measuring
1. Take off the electrode cover.
2. Turn the device on by pressing the "ON/OFF" button. The display will flash briefly.
3. Shake the device like you would a mercury thermometer.
4. Dip the sensor into the solution you want to measure and shake off any bubbles that may appear.
5. The measured value will show on the display after you press the "ON/OFF-READ/HOLD" button. By pressing it again, you delete the reading and prepare the meter to take another measurement.
6. If the sensor dries, the device will have a longer response time. Store the sensor in water or a storage solution (or soak it for 1-2 hours before taking a measurement).

We recommend buying a KCL Storage Solution, which can significantly lengthen the lifespan of the probe.

We recommend an HCL solution for regular cleaning and a pH 7 calibration solution for keeping the measurements precise.
