HID Bulbs

To choose the one that fits your needs, we recommend asking two starting questions:

Do you need an HID bulb for the vegetative phase, the flowering phase, or both? 

Choose a type and construction which is the most beneficial for the current growth phase of your plants. HID bulbs are different in output, light intensity and spectrum. An important thing to consider is the colour temperature (expressed in Kelvins), which describes the light's colour. 

Basic types according to construction: 

• HPS - High-Pressure Sodium bulbs are used in the flowering phase and give off mostly a red or yellow light ranging from 2000 to 2500 K.
• MH - Metal Halide bulbs are best for the vegetative phase of your plant. Their light is tinted white and blue (4200 - 6500 K). 
• CMH - Ceramic Metal Halide bulbs are suitable for the entire growth cycle. They give off less light and have lower power consumption.

How much space do you want to illuminate?

The way you answer this question will help you determine the amount of power you need:

• For small spaces - a tiny grow tent or cold frame, you can use a 70 or 150 Watt bulb.
• Areas around 60x60 cm and smaller grow tents do well with a 250 Watt bulb.
• If you need to light about a square meter, use at least a 400 Watt bulb.
• For medium grow tents and areas up to 150x150 cm, you should use a 600 Watt or 750 Watt bulb.
• Large dark tents or larger spaces will grow best under a 1000 Watt bulb.
