Refractometers use the refractive index of light to measure the properties of a solution. Hobby growers, farmers and beer brewers use them to measure the weight percentage of sugar in a water solution. The Milwaukee MA871 is easy and quick to use.
First, the device is calibrated using distilled or deionized water. It measures the refractive index of the light passing through the liquid and converts it into % of sugar in seconds.
The digital device is more precise than mechanical refractometers, portable and quick.
Milwaukee MA871 displays the weight percentage of sugar in the measured sample and current temperature (° C /° F) on a clear LCD screen.
The measurement technique and temperature compensation employ the methodology recommended in the ICUMSA Methods Book (Internationally recognized body for Sugar Analysis).
